Many doctors recommend that parents take certain actions to help their children who have heartburn. Also, there are medications available to help treat your children, and surgery can be considered as well if needed.
- Give your children more frequent and smaller feedings.
- Hold the children upright for at least half an hour after feeding, so that the milk has a chance to go down with the help of gravity
- Thicken formula or breast milk with rice cereal. The thickened formula helps the feeding stay down.
- If you are breast feeding, consult with a lactation specialist for suggestions
- Make sure you don't give your children certain foods.
